Muhammad Akram Karimi, working on a funded project by Saudi Aramco has been awarded Best Student Paper Award (3rd place) at International Microwave Symposium(IMS) 2016 in San Francisco. IMS is the most prestigious conference of Microwave and RF community where the best groups worldwide showcase their high quality work.The acceptance rate of papers in this conference is low (between 40-50%) which this year was 37% (370 papers were accepted out of around 1000 submissions). Farhan's stretchable antenna paper in Advanced Functional Materials

The paper entitled "Metal/Polymer Based Stretchable Antenna for Constant Frequency Far-Field Communication in Wearable Electronics" is accepted for publication in Advanced Functional Materials (AFM). AFM is known for its rapid and fair peer review, quality content, and high impact (2014 Impact Factor: 11.8). The antenna for this work was designed and characterized by Farhan A. Flexible Bluetooth Tags on marine animals attract interest from Spanish Media and National Geographic

The flexible bluetooth TAGS were recently tested on marine animals (fish, turtle, crabs, etc) in a facility in Valencia Spain. These tags collect sensors data from the marine animals and send it in a wireless fashion to innovative floating receivers in water. This is joint work from our group (Kuo, Akram, Qingle and Nidhi) as well as Prof. Hussain and Prof. Jurgen's groups. Gaurav's Waste Energy Harvesting work highlighted on KAUST Discovery and other technology websites!!

Gaurav work on waste energy harvesting through MIM based rectennas has been highlighted in KAUST Discovery with the title "Round The Clock Power From Smart Bowties". This paper shows for the first time collection and conversion of waste heat into useful electricity. Haoran's Master Thesis Defense

Masters student of IMPACT Lab, Haoran Zhang has successfully defended his thesis. His thesis is entitled "Gain Enhancement Techniques for mm-wave On-chip Antenna on Lossy CMOS Platform". This was a multi disciplinary work requiring skills of antenna design, RFIC design, inkjet printing, 3D printing, and mm-wave measurement. Haoran showed great skills in all these fields and produced a high quality Masters thesis. Congratulations Haoran!!!

IEEE MECAP 2016 Best paper Award

Muhammad Fahad Farooqui has won the best paper award in IEEE Middle East conference on Antennas and Propagation (MECAP), 2016 for his work on wireless Smart Bandage for health care applications. The conference had accepted papers from 12 countries and 51 papers were selected for the competition.

IMPACT wins three poster awards at EE Days event

IMPACT lab won 3 out of 8 poster awards in the poster competition of EE days held on 22nd February 2012 at KAUST. Muhammad Fahad Farooqui received the best PhD poster award in the EM track for his work on disposable and floatable wireless sensors for real time flood sensing. Loic Marnat received the best post-doc poster award for his work on nano structures for RF electronics. Mena Gadalla received the most popular poster award among all the posters.

IEEE APS is organizing the 11thAnnual Student Design Competition this year in Montreal. The topic for this year is “Radar applications in everyday life”. Out of 30 submissions, only 6 teams have been selected as finalists in the competition. KAUST IMPACT Lab team, in collaboration with UESTC, has qualified for the finals. Tri-Band inkjet printed antenna paper accepted in IEEE AWPL

The Abstract of the paper: Realization of U-slot tri-band Monopole antenna on a low cost paper substrate using inkjet printed technology is presented for the first time. U-shaped slot is optimized to enhance the bandwidth and to achieve tri-band operation of 1.57, 3.2 and 5 GHz with measured impedance bandwidths of 3.21%, 28.1% and 36% respectively. The antenna is fabricated through a metallic nanoparticle ink on a standard commercial paper. Thus the antenna can be used to cover the GPS, WiMAX, HiperLAN/2 and WLAN. The antenna has a compact size of 12 × 37.3 × 0.44 mm3 leaving enough space for

A head impact alert system was designed when we received four international students from different backgrounds this February from the Microelectronics Winter Camp at KAUST.
